Friendly co-operation help BFA with match schedule
the Bermuda Football Association for their upcoming World Cup qualifying match with Haiti by bringing forward their matches scheduled for April 26.
The BFA did their bit in helping make the England `A' cricket tour in February a success by rescheduling soccer matches for that week so as not to clash with the cricket matches at Somerset Cricket Club.
And now the BCBC have returned the favour by rescheduling their limited overs matches on April 26 for the Saturday so as not to clash with the first leg match between Bermuda and Haiti which is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
"They had already indicated that when we had our game they would look favourably at assisting us,'' said a grateful BFA administrative assistant Joe Brown yesterday. "It's not so easy to reschedule cricket as it is football but they decided they would reciprocate us and we appreciate it.'' Ed Bailey, president of the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control, says that working together can only help improve Bermuda's premier sports. "This is fantastic, the Board and the BFA working very much in unity,'' said Bailey yesterday.
"This is something I would like to see remain for a long time. We both deal with the same field operators and we really wish that soccer is supported and that Bermuda does well in the Haiti match.'' Having to share grounds has often caused friction between the two sports bodies, especially at the end of one sport's season and the beginning of the other. But sharing office space in Hamilton has obviously helped improve the relationship.
"It's important that we do work together,'' Bailey says. "I can see Bermuda's two major sports going from strength to strength.'' The start of the Shell Youth Tournament, with the teams playing as clubs instead of parishes for the first time, has been put back from this weekend to next Saturday.
