Frost retains Open titles
Bermuda Table Tennis Association Open Championships on Saturday at Elliott Primary gym.
A series of no-shows meant that Frost didn't see action until the semi-finals of the singles where he began the defence of his title with a 21-10, 21-5 win over Myron Piper. In the final Frost beat underdog Curtis Hodgson 21-13, 21-8, 21-11.
Hodgson had earlier beat Rudolph Spence 21-13, 21-13 and Kevin Lapsley 21-6, 21-11 before upsetting number two seed Dennis Pearman in the third round which put him into the semi-final against third seed Dave Waltham. Hodgson then won that match 21-12, 21-11 before coming unstuck in the final against the league's top player.
In the men's doubles Frost and Waltham defeated Mike Lindo and Dennis Pearman 21-17, 21-15, 21-12 in the final.
Lindo and Pearman upset number two seeds Rawle Frederick and Myron Piper 20-22, 21-17, 21-17 in the semi-finals.
In the mixed doubles number one seeds Frederick and Monique Ternier defeated Frost and Barbara Lambert 21-10, 21-14. Ternier won the women's singles round robin with a 5-0 record while Gabriella Salvia (4-1) was runner-up.
Ternier then teammed up with Salvia to win the women's doubles round robin with Joyce Bristow and Wendy Salvia finishing second. Ternier also played with the men in the singles and after beating Duncan Coates in the first round, she almost upset Waltham. Ternier was leading 21-18, 11-9 before Waltham won 12 consecutive points to triumph 21-11 and then finished the contest with a 21-13 win in the third game.
