Fubler hat-trick sparks Firemen

Commercial League Group A while PHC Raiders extended their lead at the top of Group B to five points during weekend action.

Fire boosted their goal difference when they hammered Mariners 8-2 with four goals in each half as Brian Fubler led the way with a first-half hat-trick, scoring in the seventh, 11th and 40th minutes.

Steven Caines got the other in the first half in the 17th minute before Troy Furbert (50), Randy Boyles (60), Theron Smith (64) and Anthony Wilson (80) completed the rout. Craig Dixon and Gil Rodrigues scored for Mariners in the 52nd and 70th minutes.

Robin Hood beat North Village Rams 2-0 to remain level on points with Fire, with Derek Thomas opening the scoring in the 33rd minute. Hood added a second in the 73rd minute.

Champions BAA Wanderers moved into third place ahead of Rams with a narrow 1-0 win over MR Onions. The winning goal came through Alistair Smith in the 25th minute via the penalty spot.

Prison Officers ended their losing streak at four games when they hit back to beat Lobster Pot 5-4 in an exciting clash. Dwight Richards was the toast of his colleagues, scoring four goals including three in the first half as the Officers led 4-2.

Dave Hosier broke the deadlock for Lobster Pot after just 20 seconds but Richards turned the match around with his first half hat-trick while Kenny Butterfield got the other.

Pot then clawed their way back to 4-4 in the second half as Hosier added a second and Bob MacCovsky and Tony Smith also scored. Richards netted the winner in the last five minutes.

In Group B, PHC Raiders handed second-placed Belco their first loss, stopping them 3-1 with goals from Keith Bell, Wendell Simons and Jack Castle.

Exiles moved into second place with a 5-1 win over St. George's All-Stars who opened the scoring through Cal Rayner after 11 minutes. Blane Tucker equalised in the 18th minute before second half goals by Derek Young (52, 61), Edwin Cannonier (80th) and Craig Crichlow (83rd) made certain of victory.

Charles Wade of All-Stars was sent off for abusive language.

Clarke Trott and Jeff Richardson both scored twice to lead Devonshire All-Stars to a 5-2 win over pointless Wolves Pack as Cecil Hendrickson scored two consolation goals for Wolves. Larry Benjamin got the other All-Stars goal.

Valley also put five past their winless opponents, as bottom team Bermuda Pest Control went down 5-1. Joe Moniz scored twice and Shawn Smith, Kevin Isaac and Kevin McNeil also netted for Valley while Chris Davis (penalty) scored for Pest Control.

Somerset Extros squeezed by Devonshire Lions 3-2 after trailing 1-0 at the half to a Gary Bascome goal in the 20th minute.

Dwaine (Tricks) Richardson led the fightback with goals in the 50th and 70th minutes before Anthony Amory tied it up in the 89th, only to see Extros hit the winner in the last minute. Andy Laws of Extros was sent off for violent conduct in the 43rd minute.
