failed again as Northumberland League side Benwell defeated Tynemouth by 58 runs.

Benwell registered 188 during their time at the crease and then dismissed Tynemouth for 130.

Glenn Smith, opening the innings, dashed to 64 before being out, raising his average to 103 while increasing his aggregate for the season to 579.

But he wasn't done yet returning with the ball to grab one for 10 from five overs.

Meanwhile, comrades Dean Minors and Gregg Foggo -- both with Tynedale -- endured mixed fortunes during their club's match against Benwell Hill.

Minors registered a knock of 39 in aiding Tynedale to 169 for eight, and Foggo also notched a useful 25 but was forced to retire after encountering shoulder problems.

Benwell Hill replied with 162.

The Smiths have a busy week ahead of them, with four matches today, tomorrow, Thursday and Saturday.

Post Office East walked away with the Canterberry Simmons Memorial Trophy on Sunday after disposing of western rivals Post Office West by 12 runs.

East piled on 143 for six declared during an innings anchored by opener Randy Butler's unbeaten half century and useful knocks from David Brangman (34) and Dennis Williams (23).

Michael Brangman and Carlton Bean each grabbed two wickets for West and Kevon Bean and Craig Critchlow one apiece.

The West got off to a rocky start, falling to 14 for two before Brangman (37) and Headley Furbert (36) rescued them -- at least for the moment -- in putting on 62 for the third wicket.

But once Furbert was bowled by James Williams with the score 71 for three, the bottom fell out.

David Brangman was the pick of the East's bowlers with two for 19, while James Williams took two for 22. Dennis Williams and Dwayne Bean each bagged one wicket apiece.

The visiting Conway Cricket Club of Boston close out their four-match tour of Bermuda today with a limited overs match against St. George's at Wellington Oval.

Thus far the tourists have defeated hosts PHC (Conway 217-4, PHC 81), lost against Bailey's Bay (Conway 127, Bailey's Bay 128-7) and drawn against the Bermuda Youth Squad (Conway 210-5, Bermuda Youth Squad did not bat).

Today's match will also serve as somewhat of a Cup Match trial for St.

George's as they look toward defending their crown against Somerset next month.

North Village defeated Cleveland by 35 runs as action continued over the weekend in the Under-17 Youth Division.

Village were led by the bat of Jamal Blakeney and the bowling wizardry of Donovan Darrell and Kofi Dill, as the Harris Bay youngsters found the going tough against their North Shore counterparts.

Opening the innings, Blakeney spurred Village to their final total with a polished knock of 37, with team-mate Elvis Richardson chipping in with 15.

Dimitri Tucker was the pick of the Cleveland bowlers, claiming four for 19 from six overs, while Munro Darrell took two for 12.

Cleveland's batsmen were out of sorts as wickets tumbled regularly almost from the outset, with only Quincy Burgess (15) and Eamon Gibbons (12) managing double figures.

Darrell, the sixth bowler used, seized four for 10 from three overs and Dill added three for eight from 4.2 overs.

The Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association will be holding a meeting tomorrow at the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation starting at 8 p.m.
