Goal hero Kyle to Miss Jamaica
miss this weekend's clash with Jamaica because of a one-match ban.
The striker, who had Bermudians jumping with joy after his 77th-minute winner, picked up a second World Cup booking in that match, which means an automatic one-match ban.
Lightbourne was also booked in the first match against Haiti in the first round. FIFA informed the Bermuda Football Association yesterday of the suspension.
With sweeper Neil Paynter's hamstring responding well to treatment, the only change to the Bermuda team for the second match on Sunday could be Lightbourne's position, with the choice being between Philip Clarke, who came on as a subsitute on Sunday, and Sammy Swan.
"I'm inclined to think Philip is better coming off the bench at this stage,'' said coach Gary Darrell last night.
"I think Sammy might be a better option. What we have to be careful of is asking Sammy to do what Kyle did for us because what Kyle did he did naturally. It might need a slight adjustment so that Sammy does for us what he does naturally.
"Overall I think we've established the way we want to play, it's a case now of getting better.'' The fact that Swan was not even in the 16 for Sunday's match is an indication of how much depth the squad has. Darrell has made it quite clear that all 20 players in the camp -- who will travel next week for the away matches -- have an important part to play in this World Cup campaign.
"As expected, anybody who's not starting or included in the substitutes initially the reaction is one of disappointment,'' said Darrell. "What we need to do, and we're getting better at it, is to accept those decisions with more maturity.
"I'll be surprised if all 20 players don't get some playing time in this round. Because you're not in the 16 doesn't mean that your chances of starting (in the next match) are any less than the players in that 16. If Sammy is the best person for that job it doesn't matter if he was in the 16 or not.
"Sometimes we can look at the opposition and decide the job we want done and decide who's the best person for it.'' So keen is Paynter to play that he has been doing what he can to help the injury improve. "The guy is so conscientious that all day long he's been icing it, stretching and going to therapy. From his experiences in college he knows the things that are necessary to get back in shape.'' The team were to watch the European Cup match between Leeds and Rangers live yesterday at Robin Hood, but decided not to interrupt their training. Today they will watch tapes of the Jamaicans, including the 1-1 draw against Bermuda at the National Stadium last September when David Bascome scored the equaliser.
