Goals galore in opening Youth Cup games
the Bermuda Youth Soccer Cup opened on Monday.
The Select East overpowered New Jersey visitors, Green Tree Dragons 10-0, but Slovakian tourists, FC Kosice, inflicted similar punishment on the Select West, winning 9-0.
Matches proved closer yesterday when the West beat Green Tree 3-0 and FC Kosice defeated the East 4-2.
In the opening games, Kosice completely dictated affairs with tall striker Laco Luka slamming five goals. Midfielder Marcel Mayoras and winger David Lipnicky completed the rout with two apiece.
The East team had a tougher time against Green Tree, despite the final scoreline, as the game remained scoreless until ten minutes before half-time.
Captain John Barry Nusum finally opened their account from the penalty spot after Ricky Saltus had been brought down and Derek de Chabert cracked two more quick goals before the break.
The introduction of Jamal Blakeney to the East forward line paid immediate dividends in the second half as he rattled in a hat-trick within five minutes of the restart. Further goals were added by Saltus, Blakeney, Nusum and Khomo Smith.
In yesterday's match, Kosice netted through Mayoras (2), Abosi and Siko while the East replied with goals from Blakeney and Saltus. GOOD CAUSE -- Proceeds from the recent inaugural all-star soccer match between past players from St.George's and Somerset was yesterday donated to the youth programme at St.
George's. Larry Hunt (second left) is seen presenting a cheque for $375 to St.
George's youth coach Noel Smith while David Brangman (left) and Stephen Paynter, who helped organise the match, look on. Next year Somerset will host the game and the proceeds will benefit their junior programme.
