Goater climbs scoring ranks

clincher -- as Rotherham overcame a 4-1 first-leg deficit to beat Scunthorpe 5-0 in extra time and 6-4 aggregate in the Coca-Cola League Cup on Tuesday night.

Needing to win by at least three goals to have a chance, Rotherham were given a good start when Goater opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Two more goals in the second half gave them a three goal lead which tied the match on aggregate and further strikes in extra time, including Goater's second goal of the match in the 98th minute, enabled Rotherham to advance to the second round.

The two goals take Goater's tally for the season to four. Kyle Lightbourne's Walsall are out of the competition after they were beaten by Brentford 3-2 away from home. The teams drew 2-2 in the first leg at Walsall.
