Goater on the move?
fans, could be following that same player at top First Division club Swindon Town.
Rumours were circulating yesterday in Swindon, which is about 40 minutes from Bristol, that the First Division leaders were looking at Goater as a replacement for Allison whom they just sold to Huddersfield Town.
Goater, who just spoke to his agent Mark Georgevic yesterday about the new contract Bristol City have offered him, says he knows nothing of a possible transfer.
"I haven't heard anything so I can't really comment,'' said Goater yesterday.
His contract with City expires at the end of the season.
"I just spoke to Mark and we have turned down the offer which they sent us.
"They want to agree things by the end of November. If that doesn't happen we think what they will do is put me on the transfer list because they would be hoping to get some interest from clubs because they would want to get a (decent) fee.'' City are also chasing promotion, from the Second Division where they are presently second. They know their hopes of keeping Goater rests on promotion.
The club already has the facilities and gate to match most First Division teams, including Swindon Town.
Goater admits he will be sad to leave City, whom he joined at the start of last season from Rotherham. "It's a great area, the fans have been brilliant and the guys get along quite well at the club,'' said the Bermudian who scored twice on Saturday to take his tally for the season to 11.
"On and off the field everything is going quite well. If I were to leave it would be a bit sad but that's football. They (Swindon) don't get a bigger gate than us. They get about 8,000 to 9,000 whereas we get 10,000 to 12,000.
"It's a club that's doing well and it looks as though they will be going to the Premiership. I played there when they were in Division Two two years ago.''
