Goater saves City with late winner

Manchester City a 2-1 victory over West Brom on Saturday. The Bermuda striker's last-gasp, close-range strike gave him his 26th goal of the season and City their first win in eight league games.

Lee Hughes had put Albion ahead on the hour, but Mark Kennedy equalised for City in the 77th minute and Goater struck two minutes into injury time, sliding home Paul Dickov's pass with his left foot.

City are now in third place in Division One, two points behind Ipswich, who also scored a last-minute winner against Fulham, but City have a game in hand.

The top two go up automatically while the next four clubs play off for the third promotion spot.

Kyle Lightbourne's Stoke City are now just two places and two points off a play-off spot in Division Two after a 3-0 win against Blackpool. Although Lightbourne was not on the scoresheet, he regained his place in the starting line-up.
