The most outstanding performance was that of 11-year-old Aaron James who fired an excellent 78 to lead the under 12 section by five shots over second-placed Oliver Pitcher who carded an 83.

Charles Markey leads the 13-14 age group after his opening round 85, and he is followed by Chris Brough on 89 and Colin Brown (90).

In the over 15 section Andrew Trott carded an excellent 75, followed by Justin Barritt who just edged out Michael Sims for second place on retrogression after both carded a 79.

Lindsey Sims lead the girls section over Jennifer Spurling after shooting an 89 compared to Spurling's 100. The second round of competition takes place today at Belmont and all players are to report by 11.45 a.m.
