Good start for Blazers
Southampton Rangers were never able to recover from a two-goal blitz in the first 11 minutes of play of this Martonmere Cup clash at Devonshire Rec. last night before a full house.
Right full-back Amon Brown struck the first goal for defending champions Boulevard after just five minutes when he guided the ball home from an acute free kick outside of the box and centre-back Mitchell Trott added the second six minutes later when a deflection from another free kick fell into his path enabling him to score form close range.
That's all the Charity Cup champions needed to send them on their merry way as Southampton played second fiddle to them for the rest of the game.
The result was put out of Southampton's reach after 46 minutes when Otis Minors scored the third goal, racing through the middle of the defence as they appealed for off-side.
It was a night of frustration for Southampton who struggled in midfield with nobody able to distinguish themselves. New players Donnie Charles, who worked hard without much success against his former team, and Vic Ball clearly need more time to settle down.
After falling behind 2-0 Southampton did little until the 32nd minute when Janeiro Tucker headed a Sheridan Ming cross just wide of the post. Otherwise it was all Boulevard in the opening half.
Ming sent a dangerous left-footed drive over the bar just 20 minutes after the restart and 40 seconds after that Minors killed their hopes when he put Boulevard 3-0 ahead with his goal after racing through the dazed defence.
Tucker had a penalty saved by Andre Hendrickson after 78 minutes after be was fouled Trott.
