COMMODORES CUP SP This week sees the Commodores Cup being challenged for by teams representing Police and the Royal Navy.

Police are the defending champions in this competition that has seven different sports being contested -- golf, rugby, target shooting, tennis, road running, soccer and tug-of-war.

The event began back in 1923 between the British Army -- then stationed in Bermuda -- and the navy. But 40 years later it was changed to include the local Police and since that time they have lost just once -- in 1987 -- and are favoured again this time.

This year's crew for the navy hail from the HMS Boxer, currently berthed in Dockyard.

The golf portion took place yesterday at Riddell's Bay Golf Club and had Police beat the Navy 2-0. Today has rugby, shooting, tennis and road running on the agenda with the remaining disciplines taking place tomorrow.
