Following up wins in both the National Time Trial and National Road Race Championships, the 18-year-old captured the final race of the Bermuda Bicycle Association calendar.

Moving his cycling career to a new level, Hedges won the St. David's road race with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and one second. Veteran rider Peter Eccles was a distant second, finishing the 17-lap course in 1:22:20, a second ahead of MacInnis Looby.

Despite hot, blustery conditions, riders set a torrid pace, causing Mel Bennett, Damion Wilson, Vance Stevens and Karl Outerbridge to fall out of contention. Wilson, Stevens and Outerbridge and Dayna Henry ultimately pulled out of the race.

Looby and Jason Krupp held a 20-metre lead early before the latter fell back and was replaced by Hedges.

Hedges' attack caught Looby by surprise and as Eccles moved into second, the US prep school star built a 30-second lead with 18 miles to go.

In the main pack, Jonathan Herring led a group of four that caught leader Duncan Simons on the bell lap. He ultimately finished fourth overall, just beating out Mike Lee, Kevin Topple and Nuri Latham.

The boys 11-12 division -- raced over seven laps -- saw Adam Petty win a sprint over Matthew Herring. Allison Petty was the winner in junior girls and Roy-Allan Burch in boys' 13-14.
