Hockey team reaches final
quite well by finishing second in their second appearance in the third annual Atlanta Dannon Cup Tournament.
The only international team at the event which was held on the two newly laid astro turf pitches that has specifically been built for next year's Olympics, the Pirates finished with a record of five victories, a draw and a defeat over a two-day period.
In the final the local side went down 2-1 to a strong New York team as the latter pulled off a hard fought win. Included in their line-up were two U.S.
national team players.
Playing skillful hockey compared to a more disciplined style provided by the Pirates, the Americans managed to adjust quicker to the surface and consequently prevailed to clinch victory.
However perseverance, combined with their ability to stick to a game plan that saw them reducing the opposition's goal-scoring chances while creating their own during counter-attacks, the Bermuda side were unfortunate not to score more than once.
Bermuda's goal came from Mark Ray in the second half which tied the game at 1-1.
The big surprise, though, was seeing the Pirates exceed all expectations by reaching the final.
Because of the overwhelming success indications is that the Pirates have every intention of returning to Atlanta for next year's event.
