Hood victory clinches title
Saturday with a 2-1 win over last season's winners, BAA Wanderers, at BAA Field.
The victory ensured that Hood could not be caught by second-placed Fire Service who came from behind to thrash Lobster Pot 7-3 in a match they had to win. Hood are now four points ahead with one match left.
Allan Mooney gave the new champions the lead in the 25th minute before an own goal by Wayne DeSilva one minute into the second half doubled the lead. Kevin Hanson pulled a goal back for Wanderers 10 minutes from the end but Hood hung on for the victory.
Jim McLaren gave Lobster Pot a 15th minute lead against former division leaders Fire Service before the firemen hit back to lead 4-2 at the half with goals by Troy Furbert in the 25th and 33rd minutes and Mark Ray in the 30th and 34th. Tony Smith scored a second for Pot in the 45th. Furbert completed his hat-trick and went on to add a fourth in the 83rd before Ralph Scott closed out the scoring in the 85th minute. Des Minors also scored four times as Division B champions PHC Raiders extended their winning streak to 16 games with a 9-1 hammering of second-placed Exiles.
Briefly Exiles flirted with an upset when Craig Crichlow opened the scoring after 53 seconds. But once Quinton Ming equalised in the 28th minute it became a different match.
Ming scored two more goals in the 44th and 70th minutes while Minors helped himself to four with strikes in the 31st, 58th, 72nd and 87th minutes. Miles Smith (51st) and Johnny Nusum (77) added to the rout.
St. George's All-Stars drew 2-2 with Devonshire Lions. Kevin Hodgson opened the scoring for Lions in the 12th minute and then had to earn a point for them with a second goal in the 85th minute.
An own goal by Jamie Roberts in the 40th minute brought the All-Stars level before Milton Jones put them in front on the hour.
