In less than favourable conditions on Sunday, Giles Spurling showed his promise with two firsts and a fourth during a combined Optimist class regatta

Battling rain, cold and little wind, Spurling led the overall points with 51 with Alexander Kirkland second on nine points from two seconds and a fifth.

Lawson Williams was a close third with a fifth, fourth and first for 93 points.

The racing committee managed to get three races in before the wind died completely, though Spurling was still capable of finding the wind and the favourable shifts.

Racing will start again in Hamilton Harbour and in Mangrove Bay in March.

Racing is open to those under 16 on the first race day of the series.
