Closest challengers to Keeble's title include former finalists Denis Kyme and Liz Martin.

Nick Kyme is unable to defend his two-year claim to the men's title due to school commitments. Tommy Sherratt, seeded one in the men's draw, is making his debut appearance in this event. Sherratt's closest contenders will be past champions Richard and Murray Brewer.

The other divisions appear difficult to call but look out for Kirby Smith, Tony Puplett, Tony Haworth, Marino Bortoli, Aaron Kaura and Mike Harvey in Division two men and Ann Mitchell, Alisa Campbell, Lisa Lea Ray, Rhonda Rawlins and Geralyn Counsell in Division two women.

Those to watch in Division three men include Mike Fletcher, Doug Jennett, Fletcher Cocquyt and Mark Tremblayme and Ellen Charnley, Tara Walsh, Jene Charles, Lucy Chung and Rose Jones in Division three women. Michael Shrubb, Andrew Stout and Richard Arnold are the top juniors.
