`Inn' crowd get down to business

tough opposition in the form of the United States North Eastern Select (USNES).

The locals enjoyed their best outing early Sunday morning when the Bermuda Under 15 National team outplayed the visitors to a 5-2 triumph even though the Under 14s were at the same time going down 3-1 to USNES.

Saturday's preparation paid off for the older bunch as they entered the pitch as a more determined unit, pressuring the Americans from the outset.

On a cold, damp Sunday morning, Bermuda lit the sky with good team play and execution of their game plan.

Full-back John Barry Nusum sparked Bermuda into the lead as he overlapped from his position to put away a pass from Tyrone Smith after five minutes.

The lead was doubled moments later when Joey Rego powered home a header after a corner by Keemo Smith.

However, the Americans showed their mettle in tying the score through two quick goals early in the second half.

Things looked bleak for the locals until Damon Ming took advantage of a defensive lapse to restore the lead and the result was made certain through further strikes from Ming along with a penalty from the boot of Smith.

Meanwhile, Sunday's corresponding fixture at Frog Lane field witnessed a depleted Under 14 team -- many were on duty for the older side -- that performed well, but not do quite enough against their hard-charging opponents.

The early picture was one of roses with Jensen Bascome sending Bermuda ahead in the fifth minute only to have the visitors storm back to seize the match.

In earlier matches Bermuda's Under 15 went down 1-0 on Saturday while the Under 14s were defeated 2-0.
