Islanders win battle of east end juniors

St.David's 187-8 St.George's suffered a second straight loss in their build-up to Junior Cup Match when they went down by two wickets to St. David's at Wellington Oval on Saturday.

Two weeks ago the St. George's juniors lost to a senior In Crowd XI, 133 to 89, but this time were beaten by players their own age.

St.David's skipper Rudell Pitcher cracked a sparkling unbeaten 88 while Steven Trott was unbeaten on 20, the pair putting on 107 in a match-winning ninth-wicket stand. Pitcher struck 14 fours.

St.George's used all 10 bowlers in an attempt to break the stand but poor bowling and fielding contributed to their downfall.

Earlier St.George's also had problems with the bat, reeling at three for three at one stage and later at eight for four. Skipper Ryan Steede led them out of trouble with a crisp 76 while Eamon Gibbons scored 10, joining his captain in a stand of 79. Desmond Crockwell hit 51 and Damon Darrell 19 not out.

Pitcher also led St.David's in bowling with five for 30. Todd Fox returned two for 17 and A.Pitcher two for 20.

Social Club 112 Flatts 113-3 In First Division action, Kevin Hurdle snatched six wickets for just 12 runs off eight overs and Gershon Gibbons grabbed three for 40 as Flatts scored a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Social Club at Nationals on Sunday.

Opener Shawn Spencer was the only batsman who had any joy against the Flatts attack, scoring 57 including eight fours and three sixes while Dwayne Adams was the only other player in double figures with 11. Quinn Outerbridge led Flatts with 24 not out while opener Troy Dean hit 20 and Brandon Woolridge 14 not out.
