Coverage begins July 24, with a special Olympic Games preview on the eve of the opening ceremony. The closing ceremony on August 9 will bring the action to an end.

Over 220 hours of sport will be aired with a concerted effort being made to schedule preliminary heats in track and field, swimming and equestrian events so that the public can see our local stars in action.

Action gets off at the crack of dawn (6 a.m.) on Sunday July 26 with viewers able to catch local swimmer Chris Flook in action in the Olympic pool during qualifying heats for the 100 metres breastroke.

Jenny Smatt should be in the pool on July 27, in the 200 metres breastroke (6 a.m. start) and 100 metre freestylists Ian Raynor and Geri Mewett are expected to grace local TV screens on July 28.

Bermuda's three-day-event team of Dennis Cherry, Nicola DeSousa, Peter Gray and Mary Jane Tumbridge start their quest for glory with the dressage phase of the competition, but will not be seen on television until July 29, when the cross-country takes place. Show-jumping follows the next day. Dressage specialist Susan Dunkerley will be in action on August 4 at 3 p.m. Bermuda time.

The men's and women's 100 metres qualifying rounds take place on July 31, at 7.30 a.m. with Dawnette Douglas of Bermuda lacing up her spikes among the women and favoured Americans Leroy Burrell and Mark Witherspoon as well as Canadian Ben Johnson, all set to line up in the men's event. The finals follow on the Saturday.

Provided he can get through the qualifying rounds, Clarence (Nicky) Saunders is likely to be seen in action in the high jump on August 2, at 11.30 a.m.

Fellow athletes Troy Douglas (400 metres) and Brian Wellman (triple jump) are both in action the following afternoon.

Sprinkled throughout the two-and-a-half weeks are tennis, water polo, canoeing, diving and volleyball. And, on August 8, the world should have the chance to witness the much-celebrated `Dream Team' capturing the men's basketball gold medal for the USA.

Bermuda's sailors take to the water on July 27, but it is doubtful much will be seen of them locally.
