Ocean Club by a whopping 17 strokes.

The 15-year-old carded an even-par 71 to go with earlier scores of 71, 73 and 69 at Belmont, Port Royal and Belmont again for an overall total of 284.

Second overall was 13-14 competitor Jarryd Dillas who shot an 85 to finish on 301. Dillas finished one stroke ahead of Nick Dunkle who was playing with James in the 15-17s. Dillas carded a final round 84 as only James succeeded in the difficult, squally conditions.

"It was pretty windy the whole round,'' said the champion who had to contend with both the wind and rain on one of the Island's toughest courses.

"It rained real hard on number five and on number six it rained some more before it stopped for about three holes. They had the pin placings in some funny spots, but the greens weren't rolling too bad.'' James, one of local golf's brightest young talents, recently completed his first year at the David Leadbetter school in Bradenton, Florida. He studies from 7.30 to 12.30 and then it's golf from 1.00 to 6.00 p.m. every day. The youngster is now seeing some improvements in his game.

"When I go back to school I'm going to try to play in a few more tournaments to try to get nationally ranked,'' he said.

"I only have one more tournament for the summer and I'll take a break for a while. I'm getting more consistent and this week I felt a lot more comfortable.'' Dunkle's runner-up total of 302 was still lower than the winning score of 304 by Scott Roy in the 18-21 age group. Roy's 75 was the second best round of the day. Doug Kingston of the US, on 307, completed the top three in the 15-17s.

Behind Roy in the 18-21 age group was Chris Brough on 307 while Charles Markey placed third on 309 after closing the gap on Brough with a 79.

Jarryd Dillas was a comfortable winner in the boys 13-14 with an overall score of 301, eight strokes ahead of Tom Edwards on 309. A further five strokes behind was Kyle Grabeman on 314.

Thomas Murtagh of the UK won the boys 11-12 years on 313 while Tyler Marshall finished on 319 for second place and Andrew Osborne a distant third on 360.

In the girls 18-21, visitor Sarah O'Neill beat out locals Stephenie Lewis and Laura Robinson to win the title with her total of 330 after shooting an 87 yesterday. Lewis was second on 335 and Robinson third on 354. Ebonie Burgess also shot an 87 to win the 13-14 division by 24 strokes.
