Just two goals were scored in Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association action on the weekend as heavy rain washed out Sunday's fixtures.
The lone A League match on Saturday saw Orioles beat bottom team Swifts 1-0 to move into sole possession of second place.
Orioles kept Swifts defence under constant pressure but goalkeeper Alex Lewis responded with some excellent saves. Swifts were unlucky not to score in the first half but in the end it was Orioles who netted the only goal of the game through Liz Adderley.
A top of the table B League clash saw Swallows and Bluebirds play to a scoreless draw on a wet and bumpy pitch, leaving Swallows three points clear at the top.
Bluebirds started off well but Swallows soon took control of the game, putting pressure on Bluebirds' defence in the first half.
It was a different story in the second half as Bluebirds played more aggressively, pressing their opponents right up to the final whistle.
In the other match, Orioles beat a young Swifts team 1-0. Melissa Durrant and newcomer Adrienne Smith played well in midfield for Swifts, while Jenna Robinson marked her debut in goal with some excellent saves in the first half.
SAILING SLG Island Optimist sailors are hoping a visiting coach from the US will bring some better weather with him.
On the heels of two straight weekend's of foul-weather racing, Philip Ross will this week conduct clinics for 13 of the top sailors in the Bermuda International Optimist Dinghy Association.
Ross has been coaching Optimist skippers for more than ten years. A former head coach for St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club and Miami Yacht Club, he has qualified sailors for US, World and European teams, three of which went on to become US national champions.
Clinics begin tonight at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and then move to Sandys Boat Club for three full days.
Sandys are hosting the BIOD's Winter Series, which held its second regatta on Sunday despite 20 knot winds and a steady downpour. The previous week, sailors managed just one race because of high winds.
