Late blunder costs Blazers

Sloppy goalkeeping by Andre Hendrickson late in the game enabled North Village to snatch a point from this First Division clash at Lord's yesterday.

Just when it looked as though the more experienced Blazers would hold out for a deserved three points, Cal Dill's free kick from a sharp angle on the left was allowed to curl inbetween the outstretched hands of an embarrassed Hendrickson.

Coach Herbie Bascome and several of his players showed their disappointment at the end, all throwing their hands in the air in dismay.

The agonising finale came just four minutes after Boulevard's Albert Caisey had missed a penalty as goalkeeper Gladwin Edness dived to his left to push away a poorly struck shot.

But the game had earlier been riddled with mistakes, both teams guilty of misdirected passes as they came withing scoring range.

Boulevard grabbed a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes when Ottis Minors scored from a Rodney Basden cross, but a rejuvenated Village levelled after 46 minutes when Elliott Jennings scored from close range.

Four minutes later Boulevard restored their lead when Edness did well to gather a header but then allowed the ball to go over the goal-line as he attempted to throw it away.

Village, however, had the last laugh as Dill stunned everybody by bending home the equaliser.
