Local entries in place for voyage

Newport's Breton Reef Tower next week, Bermuda's trio of hopefuls are in the Rhode Island town preparing for the 635-mile voyage.

For Eldon Trimingham the race will be his second Newport outing at the helm of the 65-foot sloop Escape .

A veteran of numerous Newport races with his previous boat Privateer , Trimingham will be accompanied by son Eldon Trimingham III for the journey back to Bermuda, which begins next Friday, June 19.

Charlie Kempe will be navigating, with Peter Chapman, Michael Oatley and Brian Hillier completing the picture on board Escape .

Trimingham will be hoping for better luck than he experienced during his last Newport outing when he was second last in the Racing Division.

This year, Trimingham, together with Nicholas Dill on board Dillightful is entered in the Cruising Division, where they will be competing for the Royal Mail Trophy.

Colin Couper's Vivace is the only Bermuda boat entered in the Racing Division this year and represents the Island's only chance of capturing the St. David's Lighthouse Trophy.
