Luporini pips locals
Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club's latest race day.
Luporini, a minibike champ in the US, took first place in that category at the World Distributor's Trophy Day at Southside on Sunday.
Used to racing on quarter mile tracks with countless turns, the American had to come to terms with the speed of the St David's arena before making his mark.
He left with the trophy thanks in part to Shannon Caisey relinquishing his ride in heat three after the exertions of competing in the GP class got the better of him.
Luporini scored 108 points, the same as Caisey and Vince Belboda, but his better placings in the three races earned him the title.
Grand Prix B saw Leroy Trott continue from where he left at the club's previous track -- Clearwater Beach.
Trott was out in front all day with the only serious challenge coming from Jason Dennis.
However, disaster befell Dennis in heat three when he tasted the dirt and in doing so handed the runner-up spot to Alex Dowling. Newcomer Patrick Groening was happy to take third.
Stock/Modified was a procession as Danny Simons, in his last year in the class, swept the day.
Perry DeSilva took second and a much-improved Steve Williams came in third.
Formula class saw the inclusion of a French racing specification Mobylette and although only half the engine size of the other bikes on the track its rider Kyle Constable still managed to bring it home in the runners-up spot.
Ed Daniels swept all the first places, while Belboda picked up his second trophy of the day for his third placed finish.
In the Scooters run away championship leader Mark Lightbourn hurt himself in practice and so it was left to one of the season's most improved riders, Virgil Vermonde to storm to victory.
Lightbourne's substitute rider, Mark Constable, grabbed second with World Distributors' rider Scott Hunt third.
A depleted GP field saw Caisey scream away from the field, taking over a second a lap out of his competitors.
However, he was prevented from making a clean sweep when he suffered brake failure in heat three. Ray Masters took the runners-up spot.
Grant Goudge and Jasonne Smith battled for third and fourth, Smith crashing under pressure in the first two heats and leaving Goudge to take the bronze spot.
The next race day is scheduled for April 22.
