Mariners player injured
Renegades 1 33 An otherwise entertaining game became a shocking affair when Mariner's stalwart Ben Jewett was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital with an undetermined neck injury.
At last report, Jewett was in stable condition in the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
Neville Ross was first on the scoreboard after flanker Rod Stewart and wing Sean Kelly linked up to put the Renegade full back in for the try. Fly half Phil Heaney kicked this conversion and added three more during the game.
Shandy Purewal added another try after centre Peter Hughes and Kelly's breaks put the flanker close to the goal line.
Mariners replied with wing Rob Morgan collecting his own grubber kick to score under the posts and Keith Hodgkins kicked the first of his two conversions.
After the half, Renegades attacked from the kick off and another Stewart break resulted in a Mike Gorrie try.
Morgan got his second try after full back Daniel Olsen broke from inside his 22. But Ross scored from a back row move to the blind side of the scrum and Kelly added a final score.

Reds' centre Darryl Bean drew first blood after a nifty counter attack from a poor Blue clearance kick.
The Police forwards countered and a penalty in the Reds 22 resulted in an easy three-point kick for the Blues. Teachers' Scott Correia got the score after the interval behind a joint effort by Montgomery and Harris.
Dennis Cherry added another after Andrew Correia's weaving run ended with him flicking the ball to the lock. The Police forwards then took control with Gareth Davies scoring on a blind side run.
Harris redeemed himself after Webber intercepted a Police pass and flung it to him.
Blues got one back with flanker Mike Deevy pouncing on a loose ball in the Reds goal area after a line out. Teachers got the final score with Andrew Correia weaving a solo run around several would-be tacklers on his way to the goal line.
Renegades II 25, Mariners II 17 Mariners' flanker Bill Zuill scored first after bursting through a line out on the Black's goal line.
Renegades replied with Mike Gorrie intercepting a stray Mpass and racing the length of the field to score. The Blacks' other wing, Craig Attridge, scored next and their third try came from Tim Boynton, who converted.
Zuill sparked a second try with a break from the back of a maul and a quick pass to prop Greg Sampson who carried the ball over the line. Ken Anderson converted.
However a Renegades' break by number eight Lou Baker resulted in prop Pat Bryant scoring from short range. Mariners scrum half Peter Vosvenieks replied with a try from short range but Boynton sealed the win with a penalty kick.
Teachers II 29, Police II 10 Teachers managed to pull away from a determined Police side to win after leading by only eight points at the half.
Strong forward play after a Jonathon Lightbourne break resulted in Freedom Burrows getting the team's first try.
Patrick McHugh kicked a penalty at the end of the first half and after the interval, he picked up the ball from the back of a scrum on the Police goal line and drove over to score. Nathan Browne added the conversion.
Police got their first try from Simon Carruther after careless Red defence.
The Blues were inspired and a line out near the Reds' goal line saw Keith Senior score.
The try cut the Red's lead to five points but David Cooke got the ball after a fluent passing move and scored the final try.
