McLaughlin match-winner seals second title for Hood
to clinch Robin Hood's second straight league title at BAA Field on Saturday with a 1-0 win over BAA Wanderers.
The top-of-the-table clash had everything to play for as Hood led second-placed Wanderers by two points going into the match.
And while a draw would have been enough for them to retain their title, they wrapped it up in style when McLaughlin nodded in at the far post after a cross from the right.
The win avenged Hood's 3-1 loss to Wanderers in their first meeting in December. That turned out to be Hood's only defeat in the league as they finished five points ahead of their rivals.
Fourth-placed MR Onions ended their season on a winning note, beating North Village 1-0 with a 35th minute goal from top scorer Bill Spencer.
Prison Officers missed their last chance to avoid the drop into the B Division, putting up a galant fight against an eight-man Fire Service team before losing 7-6 in one of the highest scoring matches of the season.
For Fire Service, Brian Fubler and Robert Thomas both scored twice in the first half while Steven Caines, Theron Smith and a Gary Ray own goal added to the scoring in the second half.
Officers, who played with six men, got goals from Mike Lambe (2), D.Wolffe (2), Dennis Leader, and D.Bean.
Seven goals also came in the Exiles-Vasco Mariners game, with bottom team Exiles winning 4-3 for only their second victory of the season.
Shannon Burchall and Treadwell Walker both scored twice while for Mariners, Joe Barosso netted two and Stephen Rodrigues one.
The Lobster Pot-PHC Raiders match was postponed because of the wedding on Saturday of PHC president Chris Furbert.
In the B Division, St. George's All-Stars beat Wolves 6-4. Freddie Hall scored twice and Dale Thompson, Kenny Pearman, Milton Jones and Eugene Crockwell all netted one apiece while for Wolves, Mandy Thomas scored twice and Sean Outerbridge and Samuel Lambe once.
