Mini-Minor Division A champions North Village Reds got off to a fine start with a 1-0 win over Devonshire Colts Orange as the Knockout Cup began on

Reds and Orange are two of the favourites in the division, which also saw BAA Greens top Dandy Town Reds 2-0 on goals from Khari Thornhill and Kevin Mutch.

Jehni Bean scored twice and Leslie Trew once as Somerset Reds beat PHC Whites 3-1.

Wolves Yellow overcame Boulevard Gold 2-1 on goals from Kyle Rogers and Michael Brangman while Hamilton Parish went to the top of the group with a 3-0 win over St. George's Blue.

In the three Mini-Minor B Division matches that were played, a total of 19 goals were scored.

Leaders Paget maintained their perfect record through 10 matches with a 9-1 drubbing of BAA Youth and Wolves Black overpowered lowly St. George's White 8-0 in the other high-scoring affair. Ryan Nesbitt was the individual high scorer for the weekend with five goals for Wolves while single tallies came from Shaki Easton, Denton Cox and William Usher.

The other match saw Devonshire Colts Whites down BAA Kids 1-0. Somerset had no mercy on BAA in the Minor Division as they pounded out a 17-0 victory.

There were hat-tricks for Ryan Simmons, Jermaine Rumley and Mark Mills, while Burchall Fox, Jenson Bascome and Ronald Tankard each scored twice. Virnson Mills and Jelani Scott scored the other goals.

PHC shocked North Village 6-2 with Tariq Williams netting a hat-trick, and Alale Furbert, Patrick Russell and Burnell Simmons one each. Takasta Goater and Khomeini Talbot scored for Village.

Wolves kept pace with front-runners North Village in the Bantam Division with a 5-1 triumph over Somerset. There were individual tallies from Cory Dowling, Tori Davis, Walde Place, Michael Dill and Kemo Smith. Devon Santucci had a consolation strike for Somerset.

Village beat Paget 8-2 in the other match. In Premier Junior Division play on Sunday, PHC crushed winless Devonshire Colts 11-0 and Somerset blanked North Village 2-0 in a battle of the top teams.

The following venue changes have been made for today. Original start times remain the same: Commercial Division, Group A: Robin Hood v Island Rangers (Frog Lane).

CHESS CHS The Bermuda Chess Club resumed activity on Monday evening after a four-week break with 28 players competing in the Princess Hotel teams event, which will be played over a seven-week period.

In first-round action, Islanders had a convincing 5-2 win over Kingfishers and Independents had a one-point lead over Bishops with one game to be played over the weekend.

Tonight, the Chess Club will hold its annual prize-giving party at the home of the club president Nigel Freeman starting at 7.30.

CRICKET CRI Devonshire Recreation Club will hold a meeting for all players on Monday at 6.30 p.m.
