Misery for Goater
Manchester City were thrashed 5-0 by Arsenal in the Bermudian international's first Premiership start.
The Gunners opened the scoring late in the first half from an Ashley Cole free kick, after City defender Danny Tiatto had been sent off.
The second-half saw Arsenal rampant with further goals from Dennis Bergkamp (52), Sylvain Wiltord (75) and Thierry Henry (80, 87).
But the scoreline could have been so different if Goater had taken advantage of good chances a minute before and a minute after half-time.
With the score at 2-0 Goater had another opportunity -- and one he will probably have nightmares about for weeks to come. Prior's 63rd minute long throw caught out the Gunners' defence and as they failed to clear, Paul Dickov beat the offside trap with a sweet pass to Goater.
However, with the goal at his mercy the player inexplicably spooned the ball over the bar.
To add insult to injury Goater was also booked during the defeat for a bad tackle.
