They opened their account in Toronto on Monday night with a 44-41 victory over Malaysia.

Team captain Bismillah Sharrieff, playing goalkeeper, thwarted the Malaysian attack, while vice-captain Erika Russell, playing at centre, did a fine job of marshalling the mid-court.

But it was the prolific shooting of Jimela Johnson, who scored 35 goals from 43 attempts, that gave Bermuda the edge. Johnson's scoring percentage of 81.4 percent was among the highest on the first full day of play in the two-week-long tournament.

She was assisted by goal attack Karen Jones who converted nine of her 14 scoring opportunities.
