New twist to BFA election saga
took a new twist yesterday, with information surfacing that appeared to lend credence to an honourary executive member presiding over an election meeting.
And while sitting members of the BFA executive offered little comment regarding the latest move by some affiliates to push for a special meeting, sources revealed how several precedents had been set in advance of having honourary vice-president, Eugene Blakeney, preside over the July 24 AGM.
Indeed, one such source yesterday told The Royal Gazette that he could not remember the last time a sitting vice-president had chaired the AGM.
"It has always been the case as far as I know,'' said one particular source.
"I have never seen a first or second vice-president preside over such a meeting, it has always been someone from the nominations committee of honourary members.
"Why has it come up now, all of a sudden, as a bone of contention? Why was nothing said during the meeting?'' Still, the presence of Blakeney in the chairmanship capacity would seem a clear contravention of the constitutional laws, and it was on this basis that a group of 11 affiliates drafted a letter to the local governing body with the goal of having the matter discussed during a special meeting.
BFA president Neville Tyrell yesterday refused comment on the issue of the letter, with general secretary David Sabir explaining that no such document had arrived at their Cedar Avenue offices as of yesterday afternoon.
