four first XVs to turn up with a full team on Saturday.

The Blues were due to play Teachers, who for the first time in their history could not muster enough players to fulfil a fixture.

Both Renegades and Mariners also failed to field a team for their scheduled clash -- a big disappointment for those players who did turn up and for spectators hoping to see a match.

A recent ruling by Bermuda Rugby Football Union on not fulfilling fixtures means that Teachers, Renegades and Mariners forfeit the points for these matches.

Police, as they had a full side and were ready to play, are awarded two points and become champions as they now have an unassailable lead of four points over nearest rivals Renegades.

The remaining two matches (Teachers have make-up games against Police and Renegades) are now immaterial to league standings.

Teachers 17 Mariners 12 Superb individual performances by wing Andrew Correia and scrum half Peter Havlicheck earned Teachers a share of the Second XV League title in the final weekend of league play.

Not only did Correia scored a brilliant try and kick three goals for a personal tally of 10 points but he set up another try and stopped two certain tries with his tackling and gathering of the loose ball in his 22.

The Reds won despite having only 14 men for most of the game after referee Nick Jones sent off David Hutchinson for stamping in the 25th minute.

Teachers were ahead at the half by 17-7, but Mariners stormed back when newcomer Glen Dunne scored a breakaway try with 15 minutes to go.

Mariners fought hard throughout the match with scrum half Howie Elliott a real ball of fire. In the last minute of the game, Elliott could have won it for Mariners when he picked up a loose pass and sprinted up the wing for what looked a certain try only to be smashed into touch by Chad Crichley.

Jeff Sangster scored the other after brilliant handling by Crichley and Correia.

In the other match, Renegades edged Police 19-13.
