North Village 1, Somerset Trojans 0

74 minutes to give North Village a deserved victory in this Friendship Trophy semi final at PHC Stadium last night.

Hansey settled it at a time when extra time seemed inevitable in a game that produced long dull periods, especially during the first half when both attacks looked inept and incapable of scoring.

Although he clinched it with his superb effort, Hansey was not the only hero for North Village. The other was goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams who only just arrived home from school in the afternoon for a two-week Spring break.

After 82 minutes Adams dramatically saved a penalty by Randy Simmons, sensationally diving full length to his left to block the shot to enable his team to maintain their 1-0 lead.

"I just kept my eye on the ball and simply waited for the kick to be taken.

Then I just did what I had to do,'' said the Bermuda World Cup 'keeper.

For his late heroics Adams received more congratulations from teammates, his coaching staff and fans in the end than anyone else -- even Hansey! However, coach Wendell (Joe) Trott gave much of the praise for the two players who he thought turned the game around for North Village after they had a sluggish first half--skipper Elliott Jennings and striker Phillip Clarke.

"Phillip and Elliott spearheaded us up front in the second half. The Somerset defence feared Phillip from the start and I told him during the interval to use his size and run at them and he did,'' said Trott.

"We were flat in the first half. The players wanted to win badly and I guess they were too careful. I told them to go out there and play their own game and express themselves and they did,'' added the coach.

After Hansey struck with his header the game looked certain to enter extra time when referee Richard Knight awarded the Trojans a penalty when Edness pulled Reggie Tucker down in the penalty box. But Adams prevented any extra time with his great save.

After Adams pulled off the save his eventual clearance started a quick counter attack for North Village that saw midfielder Kimandi Binns getting off a good shot from 16 yards only to see goalkeeper Winslow Williams dive full length to slap the ball around the post for a corner.

North Village however were really unlucky after 66 minutes when midfielder Kevin Jennings had his scorcher from 25 yards headed away from goal by Brian Simons as the Somerset skipper stood on the goal line.

The first half was dull and uninspiring with neither attack looking sharp.

Time and time again decent approach work was ended by misdirected passing as play reached the respective penalty areas.

The Trojans had the best chance, though, and it came after 44 minutes when Kwame Tucker put an effort wide from close in after a rebound fell into his path.
