North Village played their deciding Martonmere Cup match on Tuesday night under protest after learning earlier in the day that their appeal against the Bermuda Football Association's decision to award their abandoned match to Vasco had been turned down.

Although the club is still in the competition after beating Dandy Town 1-0, Village president Wendell Lindsay insisted that was not the sole reason for the protest.

"Us still being in the competition is not the main issue here, the main issue was the process,'' said Lindsay.

The club stands by their position that the BFA was wrong to allow the 3-0 scoreline in their match with Vasco on October 3 to stand as the result after the match was abandoned after 70 minutes because of light failure.

"There is no further recourse than to jump up and make a lot of noise in the press, which we don't want to do because that's not going to do anyone any good,'' said the president.

"At the end of the day we put the governing body there to do a job and hopefully in the future they'll do their job more meticulously.'' Village, after receiving written correspondence from the BFA yesterday confirming that their appeal was turned down, wrote back to the association to enforce their own position on the matter. However, in Lindsay's words, to pursue the matter further than that would be "like flogging a dead horse.'' "In receipt of the association's letter advising that the appeal that we lodged has been denied, we have simply written back to indicate that we would like the record to show that the match was being played under protest,'' Lindsay explained.

"We maintained the view that the competition's committee had erred in their decision and that the appeals committee did not adjudge the articles 2 (n) and (o) as we had appealed.

"Where do we go from here, well I guess we've been put on record as not being in aggreement with the process and perhaps those rules need to be looked at.

"As to any further action, we'll only be flogging a dead horse. We just don't want to see another club in a similar circumstance and hopefully this won't happen again because of the stand that we've taken.'' Village will play Boulevard in one semi-final and cup holders Vasco will meet St. George's in the other, the dates of which have been put back a day from October 31 so as not to clash with Haloween. BAA field remains the venue.

Sunday's FA Cup elimination round match between St. George's All-Stars and Fire Service will be played at Wellington Oval at 3.00 instead of 1.00.
