OJ Pitcher yesterday won more plaudits for his performances with the Americas cricket team at the Youth World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Bermudian Pitcher was the only bowler in the Americas team to curb a fluent South African batting performance as his side crumbled to a 151 run defeat at the hands of the Springboks in the first match of the Plate competition.

Pitcher impressed onlookers with a nippy spell of 2-27 from seven overs in which his enthusiasm never waned. His wickets were the only two credited to bowlers as South Africa ran up 264-3.

And it was Pitcher's throw from the deep which accounted for the other South African man to go, Puttick, who made 76 before being run out.

Only Ashish Bagai, the Americas captain, showed any great ability with the bat, making an undefeated 53 as his side stumbled to 113 all out.

Bermudian off spinner Stephen Outerbridge stuck with him for 68 minutes in making 15.

The Americas' remaining games are against Holland and Ireland.
