The new champions swept through the singles, as Zane, Anthony and David DeSilva and Gary Skinner each recorded victories. Anthony DeSilva and Skinner later teamed up for a victory in the doubles. The chances of a white-wash were erased when David and Zane DeSilva fell to the Old Colony duo comprised of Richie Davis and Stan Fearis.
In the only other reported match Sandys Boat Club similarly deposited Old Colony Club III 5-1.
The final of the Gosling Trophy, pitting Nationals against Sandys Sports Club I, will take place today at Old Colony Club starting at 7.30 p.m.
Entry forms for the International Snooker League qualifying tournament are available at Old Colony Club.
An entry fee of $100 is required. Entries for the tournament close on March 15.
GOLF GLF The Hyannis Club Islanders set the pace with a superb 50 during first round action of the Bermuda Easter Lily Pro-Am at St. George's yesterday.
The team was led by returning pro Sue Kaffenburgh, from Stamford, Connecticut, along with Ann O'Connor, of Massachusets, and locals Joyce Lindo and Cecil Stubbings.
The foursome outpaced Winchester Country Club I, who are led by Julie Rivers and Kathy Farrer.
In the gross division Joy Bonhurst, Pressie Hoffman, Bailey Scheurer and Mary Kinney of Chevy Chase, Maryland, fired a superb three under par 59 to grab the lead over Hyannis Club Islanders.
Last year's gross winners, Baltusrol Country Club, are still in the hunt, led by Karen Hobbs, Lynda Hedges and Laurie Garfinkel.
Today's action will be a four ball better two ball at Castle Harbour.
BGA members are reminded of this Saturday's medal play competition to be held at Ocean View, with the secretary accepting entries up to 6 p.m. today by phoning 238-1367.
Additionally, the mixed foursome tournament has been transferred to the St.
Geroge's course on April 1 and 2 with an 8.30 shotgun start on each day. The fee will be $130 per team for the event and entries should be mailed or delivered to the BGA secretary at Box 433, Hamilton HM BX.
The Men's Amateur will be played at Mid Ocean from next Tuesday to Saturday.
There is a full entry of 80, 38 from overseas and 42 locals. With neither last year's winner Scott Mayne nor runner-up Joel Hirsch playing there will be new faces in the final next Saturday.
PAN-AM GAMES SOC The Bermuda Broadcasting Company confirmed yesterday that Bermuda's three Group B soccer matches at the Pan Am Games in Argentina will be broadcast live on both television and radio.
The company's CEO and veteran news broadcaster Rick Richardson will be on hand in Argentina to help provide the coverage to Bermuda viewers as Bermuda's Under-23 team take on Chile, Brazil and Costa Rica in their three round robin matches.
Bermuda's first match is on Friday against Chile starting at 9 p.m. On Monday they will meet Brazil starting at 7 p.m. and next Wednesday they take on the Costa Ricans, also at 7 p.m.
The events will be aired on ZFB TV-7/Cable 2.
The company will also provide 10-minute daily updates on radio of other Pan Am Games events, beginning on Sunday and going through to Monday, March 27 on 1340 radio at 8.15 a.m., 12.15 p.m. and 5.15 p.m.
