Parish poised to celebrate
Hamilton Parish tomorrow, while the battle continues to see who they will replace in the First Division.
Parish, who have the day off and will no doubt travel to St. David's with champagne in tow, will be pulling for Wolves -- their Shield semi-final opponents next week -- to do them a favour and beat St. David's.
In fact, a draw would be even more beneficial to Parish as they would then only trail the leaders Wolves by four points but with two games in hand in the battle for the Second Division championship.
Thus, depending on the result, celebrations at the end of the game could be for Parish's return to the top flight after an absence of five years.
St. David's have only a slim chance of gaining the second promotion spot as they can only finish tied on points with Parish, who would have to lose their three remaining games against Prospect, Social Club and St. George's.
St. David's must win against Wolves tomorrow and then against Paget and Prospect.
Meamwhile, the First Division relegation battle continues with three of six teams playing tomorrow all fearing the drop. With only four games remaining, last-placed PHC face a do-or-die situation when they host Boulevard at PHC Stadium.
It is actually an important match for both teams as Boulevard, second in the standings, are still in the title race. They presently trail leaders Vasco by five points going into the final stretch.
Having been eliminated from the FA Cup last weekend by Vasco, Boulevard may also have to settle for second best in the league race which Vasco are threatening to wrap up in the next couple of weeks.
Tonight at BAA Field, Vasco take on defending champions Devonshire Colts who can officially be dethroned with a draw or a loss. Colts, 1-0 losers to Vasco in the Friendship semi-final on Thursday night, are comfortably placed in mid-table under no threat of relegation.
Also in mid-table safety are Southampton Rangers who entertain Somerset. The Trojans, four points behind Rangers, need another couple of victories to move clear of the relegation zone where just a point stands between themselves, Devonshire Cougars and Hotels, whose match last night against North Village at BAA Field was postponed. No new date has been confirmed.
In-form Cougars, level on 14 points with the Trojans, make the short trip to St. John's Field to meet Dandy Town.
