year after defending champion Dwayne Pearman and Cornell Bean got past semifinal opponents yesterday at Port Royal.

Pearman defeated Lloyd James three-and-two while Bean edged by Keith Smith on the 19th hole.

Pearman and Bean will battle for the title of champion for 1993 as well as $600 and 72 points in today's 36-hole final which begins at 8 a.m.

Pearman admits he will have to play better tomorrow than he did yesterday if he is to overcome the challenge from Bean whom he admits, "is the match play king''.

"I'll have to play some good golf,'' Pearman accepts. "Cornell and I always have nice battles.'' Pearman says he is having some problems with his tee shots though there has been some improvement with it this week. "Today was a lot better than yesterday so every day it's getting better,'' he explained.

"I feel pretty confident from the fairway to the green but it's off the tee when I'm hitting my driver that I'm not so confident. My tee shots are not as accurate as they should be. Lloyd (James) played steady but he made a couple of mistakes.''
