PHC, Somerset gain junior KO final

The young Zebras booked themselves a place in the Junior KnockOut final in disposing of North Village in Saturday night's curtain-raiser at PHC Stadium.

Promising youngster Omar Shakir presented himself as the key figure, scoring twice and wreaking havoc among his foes.

Shakir's first strike came in the first half and was one of individual effort as he picked up a ball near midfield on the left side, successfully eluded two defenders and fired past goalkeeper Sherwin Jennings at the near post.

Holding territorial advantage and ruling much of the play, PHC toyed with their opponents, part-time senior player Tokia Russell in particular turning on the style from midfield, teaming with front men Jahma Charles and Jamel Robinson.

The second half followed a similar script. Village absorbed great pressure, reverting to the quick counter as their major form of attack.

Village striker Keenan Butterfield caused problems with his height a forcefulness during these infrequent raids.

Shakir doubled the scoreline in the 75th minute after taking a pass from midfielder Orman Smith and side-stepping a defender before unleashing a left-footed drive from 17 yards that snuck in under the body of Jennings.

Sweeper Runako Hill reduced the arrears to a lone goal in converting an 86th-minute penalty, after Jarizhino Simmons was brought down.

Somerset 8, Dev. Colts 1 Winston Martin struck a hat-trick and Chris Mouchette scored twice as Somerset were comfortable winners over Colts in the other semifinal on Sunday at St.

David's.

The match started at 12.30 p.m. in case of extra time, but Somerset were so far out in front that this match was effectively over midway through the second half.

The rout began after only just 40 seconds when Darren Showers opened the scoring before Martin and Jebral Tucker added further goals to give Somerset a 3-0 lead at the half. Tucker went in goal in the second half to allow Marcel Dill to play in the outfield and he also got in on the scoring act, scoring Somerset's seventh goal.

Martin closed out the scoring in the closing minutes to complete his hat-trick. Devonne Simmons scored Colts' lone goal late in the second half to make it 6-1.
