Still smiling: Top masters runner Sylvester Jean-Pierre waves to the crowd on his way to a seventh place finish in Thursday's race. Jean-Pierre placed second behind Manuel Lopes in the masters division.

Still going strong: Former Premier David Saul showed that neither age nor a successful fight against cancer have dampened his enthusiasm for Bermuda's big race. He finished a respectable 126th in 1:43.57.

Follow the leader: Former winner Tracy Wright placed third in this year's Derby.

Wheels on fire: Vincent Seaman (right) battles with Elmore Warren during the early stages of Thursday's annual Heritage Day Inline Skating race from Somerset to Hamilton. Seaman went on to win in 38 minutes, 59 seconds, just a second ahead of Taur Caisey. Former winner Warren placed third.

Young guns: Some 50 schoolkids took part in Thursday's annual Heritage Day Junior Classic from Front Street to Bernard Park. Overall winner was Taijuan Talbot with Jenny Palmer leading the 13-15 girls division. Justin Collis and Charlene Grant topped the 8-10 year-old group while Cody Lima and Shellicia McKenzie won the respective boys and girls 11-12 division. McKenzie was the first female overall.

Wet and wild: Thursday's downpour didn't stop Bermuda's fitted dinghy sailors from competing in their traditional season-opening races in St. George's Harbour. Port Royal won the Heritage Trophy in the day's first race with Victory (left) pipping Elizabeth (right) for second.
