divisions over the weekend with hard fought wins.

The Blues scraped past Teachers by two points to win 12-10 while Mariners withstood late pressure to beat Renegades 13-8.

In other action, Renegades let Mariners stage a comeback late in the match to tie the score at 23-23 on Sunday while Teachers beat Police 25-21 in second team play the day before.

However, Teachers had to give the points for the win to Police as they could not field a full team and had to play regular first team players as well as borrow two players from Police.

But Teachers' captain Andre Simons, who has been sidelined since an injury against Saracens during the summer, remained upbeat.

Simons put this week's losses down to injuries as the Reds were missing seven regular first team starters.

And despite the first team's weak kicking game -- five penalty kicks were missed on Sunday -- Teachers' forwards gave a good account of themselves after last weekend's poor showing against Renegades, he said.

But their situation does not look much better this week with Alvin Harvey leaving Sunday's game with minor concussion. Simons was not sure if he would be able to play this weekend.

However, he said wings Heath Robinson and Craig Perry were expected to be fit after recovering from injuries along with full back Michael Montgomery and scrum half Andrew Correia.

This should ease demand on the second team as well, said Simons.

In the second game on Sunday, Mariners went out hard against Renegades but fell behind as the Blacks notched up some early points and kept control of the game.

But Mariners' persistence paid off and Renegades were forced to defend throughout the second half while Mariners managed to even the score behind their well-drilled pack who dominated the loose play and set pieces.

In second team action, Mariners' team-mates Chris Sylvester and Colin Newell scored a try apiece while captain Derek Kilcoyne kicked a penalty.

Renegades replied with a late surge in the second half that saw substitute Stevie Givens score a try but all was for nought as Mariners hung on to win.

Earlier Teachers were on the brink of defeat after an erratic pass was intercepted by Police centre Warren Brown who raced the length of the field to score beneath the posts for his second try of the day.

But with the score 21-20, Teachers launched an all-out attack on the Police line which saw guest wing Robin Hollinsid score, saving them from defeat.
