Port Royal's double win marred by protest

the gap on Elizabeth in the chase for the Coronation Cup in the latest round of fitted dinghy racing on Sunday.

But there was controversy as Victory filed a protest against Port Royal for not tacking when called on the third weather leg in the second race.

Will White, skipper of Port Royal said he had decided to go back to what had worked in previous years -- even wearing his lucky Hawaiian shirt.

"We have been struggling with our new number two sails this year, so we decided to pull out the old ones, which seems to have worked,'' said White.

The protest committee could have a busy time, as Port Royal was unable to tack as required by the rules, because Elizabeth was a boat length or two to weather of her.

And so Port Royal could be forced to protest against her fellow club boat in her own defence.

Elizabeth , which was third in the second race, had been forced to withdraw from the first race after hitting Contest as she tried to go inside her after rounding the weather mark.

Contest put in a consistent showing to place second in both races, while Victory , which appeared to be taking on a lot of water, placed third and fourth.

Challenger was forced to retire from the first race after her jib halyard snapped, and she sank in the second.

Racing will resume in St. George's harbour in two weeks' time.
