Rain-hit testimonial still a success say organisers
Rain may have had a negative effect on this year's cricket testimonial match at Lord's but it hasn't dampened the spirits of the organising committee.
According to St. Clair (Brinky) Tucker they have already started to look ahead to ensure that next year's event will be just as attractive to the cricket-loving public.
"Even though the game was eventually rained out this year, it was a success as far as we were concerned,'' said Tucker. "The main thing is that we got in some play and those who did come were appreciative.
"The fans gave us a very positive response and our guest player from Trinidad and Tobago, Ian Bishop, was taken back by the great hospitality and the overall friendliness shown by the public. He has told us that he will be back one day, whether it's to play a game or just for a vacation.'' According to Tucker, the honorees and their families were delighted with the arrangements. Nathaniel Proctor and Norwood Smith were both present while Tommy Aitchison was abroad and unable to attend.
Tucker said the event continued to be profitable with proceeds going towards the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control's development programme.
"The only disappointment during the day was the weather, it wasn't too kind to us. But we have no control over that and everybody present went on and enjoyed the day,'' he added.
"The size of the crowd was good considering the fact that the forecast was poor for the entire weekend and that the rain came during the early part of the afternoon.
"The public got the opportunity to see Bishop bowl. He bowled at a good pace and later walked around the field and signed a few autographs.
"The committee would like to thank the many businesses and sponsors who contributed to this year's event to help make it a success. We are indeed grateful for their support.''
