Rams grab a draw to put pressure on Robin Hood

North Village Rams had another say in the Commercial League A Division championship race at the weekend when they held leaders Robin Hood to a draw to keep alive Fire Service's hopes of a first league title.

Rams, who recently handed Fire their first defeat of the season, did the firemen a favour with a 1-1 draw against Hood which enabled Fire to cut the lead from six to four points with just two games remaining.

Robin Hood took the lead in the 33rd minute through Mike Harvey before Allan Fray replied in the 61st minute for the Rams.

Fire had to pull out the stops to beat bottom team Mariners 4-3 with Troy Furbert leading the way for them with two goals, while Brian Fubler and Steven Caines got the others. Carlos Lopes and Garu Adams replied for Mariners who were relegated to the B Division with the loss.

Robin Hood need one victory in their two remaining matches against defending champions BAA Wanderers on Saturday and Mariners to make certain of the title.

However, Fire still have slim hopes as two draws for Robin Hood, combined with Fire Service winning their last two matches against Lobster Pot and MR Onions, would see the two teams finishing level on points. Fire have a superior goal difference.

Prison Officers joined Mariners in the drop after they were hammered 9-1 by Lobster Pot. Tim McLaren led the Pot scoring with four goals while others came from Tony Hassan, Tony Smith, Adam White, Dave Hosier and Enda O'Reilly.

Denton Leader replied for the officers.

MR Onions pulled themselves to safety with a 2-0 win over the Wanderers, William Spencer and Gary Wilson scoring their goals.

In B Division action, Belco have apparantly given up the fight for the second promotion spot after showing up with only seven players and no jerseys for their match with top team PHC Raiders. The defaulted win took PHC's record to 15 straight wins.

Exiles strengthened their grip on second place with a 5-1 win over St.

George's All-Stars. Craig Crichlow and Alan Johnson both scored twice while Derek Scott got the other as Cal Richardson replied for St. George's.

Bermuda Pest Control ended their losing streak at 14 games when they beat Valley 3-2 to pick up their first win. A.Francis scored twice and B.Bovenga the other for Pest while Kevin McNeil and Kevin Isaac netted for Valley.

Wolves Pack beat Devonshire All-Stars 6-3 as Paul Douglas scored twice.

Neville Greene, Cecil Hendrickson, Micky Robinson and Mandy Thomas scored the others while Johnny Robinson, Jimmy Tweed and Roderick cox scored for the All-Stars.

Devonshire Lions beat Somerset Extros 5-1 with Ernest McCallan scoring a hat-trick and Kevin Hodgson and Raynell Perinchief scoring the others for Lions. Donnie Simmons tallied for the Extros.

The draw for the KO Cup semi-finals on March 13 sees Lobster playing Exiles at 1.00 and North Village Rams taking on Robin Hood at 3.00. Both matches will be held at St. John's field.
