Rangers' fighting finish settles nine-goal cup clash

Saturday and when the dust finally settled after some 120 minutes it was the home side who emerged victorious.

Rangers first threatened a walkover in this Commercial KO Cup encounter, surging into a two goal lead before half-time courtesy of midfielder Blaine Outerbridge.

However, this was only to be the start of the fight as the visitors stormed back with three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead.

And as the referee's watch ticked toward the conclusion of regulation time Rangers' coach Troy Berkeley claimed the most dramatic of equalisers 10 seconds from time to send the match into extra time.

The drama continued as Outerbridge completed his hat-trick, but was matched as Forties also tallied, increasing the score to 4-4.

It was then left to Michael Bremar to fire the final cannon, a shot which earned Rangers a 5-4 triumph and a place in the next round.

Newcomers Belco notched their first win in the competition at the expense of Park United, a 3-2 victory at Shelly Bay field.

Anthony Zuill, Cameron Rawlins and Vernon Martin emerged as the chief architects of the home side's decline, each scoring once.

For Park United only James Braithwaite and Bruno Difrancescantonio could find the target.

Valley moved into the next round after disposing of Devonshire Lions 3-1, while the match between Prison Officers and Fire Service was postponed due to the firemen being involved in a combined emergency exercise.

In Alliance Division KO Cup action PHC came from a goal down in the second half to extinguish Somerset 3-2.

Garon Simons initially put PHC ahead on the stroke of half-time, only to have the West Enders storm back to take a 2-1 lead on a Bilal Shakir own goal and a strike from Winston Martin.

However, the Zebras came back with McLee Smith levelling matters, before Schai Govia grabbed the winner 11 minutes from time.

Devonshire Colts and Southampton engaged in a goal feast at Frog Lane, with the home side ending up winners by a 5-2 margin.

Clifton Anderson did the most damage, registering a hat-trick, aided by single strikes from Gerald Bean and Shakai Waldron. Kwame Tucker netted twice for the losers.
