Rangers impressive
A hat-trick by Nashun Smith and two more from Ascento Russell helped Southampton Rangers romp to a comfortable victory in this FA Cup replay at Somerset last night.
Rangers had the best possible start, scoring after just 55 seconds when Smith opened his account from close range following a corner on the left.
After Shakai Crockwell lifted a good chance over the bar from six yards at the other end, Rangers made their opponents pay with a second goal in the 36th minute when a long kick upfield sent Russell through and his shot still found the back of the net despite a challenge from the advancing Antoine Tuzo in goal.
A lapse in concentration at the back by Rangers enabled Boulevard to pull a goal back in the 42nd minute when Jahmel Samuels hit a low shot into the far corner.
And though Boulevard continued to threaten early in the second half, the third goal by Smith in the 63rd minute put the match out of their reach. Craig Darrell created the chance inside the area and Smith had an easy chance from the six-yard box.
The best goal of the game came three minutes later when Russell started a run from inside his own half on the left which ended with the striker tucking the ball past Tuzo.
Rangers lost captain Donnie Charles to a red card for dissent moments after he headed a goalbound freekick from Samuels off the line. Despite the handicap Rangers managed to score again as Smith completed his hat-trick eight minutes from the end from close range.
Social Club 2 Ir.Rangers 1 Ireland Rangers suffered their first defeat of the season as Social Club booked their spot in the second round witha come-from-behind victory.
As was the case in the 1-1 draw on Sunday, Ireland Rangers took the lead, scoring through Michael Mendes in the 17th minute after dribbling past two players and scoring with a low shot into the far corner.
The lead last just eight minutes as Social Club equalised in the 25th minute through a Michael Parsons header from a corner which had been flicked on.
It stayed that way until the 61st minute when Social Club took the lead through a twice taken penalty by Tokia Russell after he had been fouled in the box. The first kick was wide but ordered retaken after Ireland Rangers players entered the box before the kick was taken. Russell made no mistake with the second effort.
Russell was booked by referee Lyndon Raynor 10 minutes later for attempting to earn a second penalty when he dived after a challenge.
Ireland Rangers stepped up the pressure after that and some casual defending by Social club caused some anxious moments in the dying minutes.
Their goalkeeper, James Trott, almost gifted Rangers a goal when he advanced too quickly on a cross from the right as the ball went behind him and towards the far post before a teammate kicked it clear.
Then Dennis DeRosa threaded a pass through for Steven Burchall but Trott blocked the shot as the ball was cleared for a corner.
