Rangers set sights on cup place
and the heavy favourites, but Southampton Rangers are hoping they can pull off an upset in tomorrow's Coca Cola First Division feature match at PHC Stadium.
Vasco will be tough to beat as they continue to challenge leaders Devonshire Colts in the race for this season's championship, but Rangers remain motivated as they chase a place in next season's Martonmere Cup.
To reach that goal they need to finish in the top six. They currently hold down sixth place, but are being challenged by PHC and Devonshire Cougars.
"We are playing well now and I expect us to continue to do so,'' said Rangers skipper Olin Jones.
"We really would like to qualify for the Martonmere Cup. We drew against Vasco in our last league game, but they beat us in the FA Cup. I expect it to be a hard, competitive game.'' Jones will be nothing but a bystander this time around, forced to sit out with an injured calf -- an injury that may keep him out for the rest of the season.
Rangers enter the game confident after a 1-1 draw against second placed Dandy Town last week.
But Vasco are also in high spirits, coming off an impressive 6-0 mauling of St. George's last Sunday which they followed with a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Dandy Town on Tuesday night.
In their first league match at Southampton Oval in November, Rangers and Vasco battled to a 1-1 draw.
Dandy Town will be trying to rebuild their confidence at home against PHC tomorrow after Tuesday's loss to Vasco.
Town are firm favourites as they take on opponents who may find it hard to recover from last Sunday's 3-0 home defeat against Devonshire Colts.
Although PHC still have a chance of earning a Martonmere Cup place, they might be happy to escape from this clash with a share of the points.
North Village will hope to keep alive their slim hopes of winning the title with a win over Boulevard at Lord's, but it won't be easy.
Boulevard looked like they were on the road to recovery when they edged St.
David's 3-2 last week and Village might also have to settle for a share of the points against seemingly revitalised opponents.
In tomorrow's other match-up, last placed St. George's are away to Devonshire Cougars who hold down eighth place.
The East Enders' relegation was confirmed last week after their 6-0 home mauling by Vasco while Cougars crashed 5-0 to Village.
In Second Division action Somerset Trojans and Wolves will continue to strive for the right to join promotion certainties Hotels.
Trojans and Wolves are tied on points, five behind the pacesetters.
Tonight Somerset should take maximum points from BAA at Somerset while Wolves should keep pace by beating Prospect at Police Field tomorrow.
In other matches tomorrow Hotels should cruise past Paget at St.John's Field while Somerset Eagles are favoured over Social Club at PHC.
