Raynor smashes 21 sixes in double ton
St. David's 309 Southampton 55 In one of the fiercest assaults on local bowling at any level, 14-year-old Shannon Raynor hammered 202 on Saturday to lead St. David's to a 254-run victory over Southampton at Spice Valley School in a BF&M Under-16 league match.
The right-handed batsman tore the Southampton bowlers to shreds as he scored two thirds of his team's massive total of 309 in 40 overs before retiring, having reached his double hundred.
It was the second highest individual total at youth level following the 270 scored by then 16-year-old Jason Lewis against Sandys Parish in 1987 in the Shell Youth League. Opener Lewis reached his total in 46 of his team's 50 overs before being dismissed.
Raynor's innings contained an amazing 21 sixes, which accounted for 126 of his runs, and seven fours as he left players on the opposing team shellshocked.
But the modest youngster, who a few weeks ago cracked 86, didn't think his innings was too extraordinary.
"I just felt good batting today, everything went fine. I hit the ball quite well,'' he said after his mammoth knock.
Inspired by Raynor's heroics, St. David's scored a comfortable 254-run win over Southampton, for whom only J.Williams (15) reached double figures in their total of 55. Williams had earlier taken two for 37 from eight overs.
Landro Minors was the best bowler for St. David's with four for five from four overs while T.Caisey claimed two for one off one over.
Warwick 133 St. George's 134-9 Home team St. George's squeezed out a close one-wicket win over Warwick at Sea Breeze Oval.
Warwick captain Dion Stovell led their batting with 34 after opening the innings while Jonathan Ball scored 14, Quinton Jones 12 and Juan Curtis 10.
Cory Hinds claimed three for 36 from eight overs and Patrick Stampf and J.Daniels took two wickets each for nine and 14 respectively.
Burgess was high man in the batting with 28 while Ben Phipps scored 23 in the tailend and L.Bean 18. Nidell Swam was the best Warwick bowler with four for 22 while Dennis Joell claimed two for 11 and Jones two for 45.
UNDER-13 LEAGUE St. George's 79-9 Warwick 82-7 A total of 35 extras conceded in the Warwick innings proved costly as St.
