Rebels fight back to end Chameleons' domination

when an inspired Rebels side came back from a goal down to hand them their first defeat of the season.

Chameleons scored first through Justin Freisenbruch who fired the Reds ahead from the top of the circle. Other chances at both ends were well saved by goalkeepers Bryan Hill of Rebels and Gordon Benson of Chameleons.

Rebels returned from the interval fired up and they pressured their opponent's defence with driving attacks from midfield.

Chameleons' defence held firm until Danny Stovell was fouled in the area. The ensuing penalty was converted by Wesley Scraders and soon after Scraders was called forward again to put Rebels ahead from the penalty spot after Danny Faria was carelessly tackled.

Once a goal down Chameleons were unable to generate a successful attack and Rebels hung on for the win amid increasing vocal support.

In the second game of the day an improving Upstarts side seemed destined for their first win of the season because Wasps were short and missing key players at game time.

After a delay, Upstarts promptly put their numerical advantage to good use and scored through a deflected goal by David Dunwoody.

However, once the game settled down, the extra room on the field made for end-to-end hockey -- a style of play that suits Wasps who have always been a strong counter-attacking side.

Simon Farrington scored a hat-trick for Wasps and Scott DeCosta finished a cross to hand Upstarts a 4-1 loss.
