For while some 200 raw recruits have spent the past fortnight enduring basic training at Warwick Camp, significant by his absence has been Looby. And yesterday's official Gazette revealed that an arrest warrant had been issued for the 27-year-old by Bermuda Regiment's Commanding Officer.

Looby's name appeared on a list of 24 soldiers who were exempted from duty and placed in Holding Company for a specific period of time -- time which has now expired, since which Looby and the others have either: failed to reply to Regiment correspondence; failed to report to Warwick Camp for administrative purposes or; failed to follow Regiment directives.

A call to Looby's job revealed that the athlete had left the Island in order to resume his cycling career, although his exact whereabouts were not known.

Looby is a member of Team Extreme, a California-based outfit.
